Mr. Howard joined the firm in 1993. His principal practice areas are federal and state income tax matters, estate planning, and representation of closely-held businesses.

For almost twenty years, Mr. Howard was the head of the tax department of a well-known medium-sized New York law firm and prior to that was associated with a major Wall street firm in its tax department.

Mr. Howard has worked actively in the following areas:
    • corporate and individual income taxation
    • estate and gift taxation
    • international taxation (representing foreign corporations and individuals conducting U. S. businesses and acquiring and financing U. S. real estate, and representing U.S. corporations with foreign business activities)
    • partnerships and joint ventures; real estate investment trusts
    • equipment leasing
    • corporate and real estate debt restructurings
    • general ERISA matters and income tax litigation.

Mr. Howard also provides estate planning services to a wide range of clients. He renders advice in connection with gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes as well as income taxes; plans for wealth transfers to family members and charitable beneficiaries; drafts wills and trust agreements; plans for estate liquidity needs; and provides advice regarding asset protection.

In the closely-held business area, Mr. Howard renders advice in connection with business structures, agreements among shareholders and partners, and compensation planning. He also represents clients in connection with acquisitions and sales of businesses.

Mr. Howard also represents clients in connection with prenuptial agreements, separation agreements and divorces.

Mr. Howard is a member of the American Bar Association (Sections of Taxation and Real Property, Probate and Trust Law) and the New York State Bar Association (Trusts and Estates Law Section). He is the author of numerous articles on tax subjects and is a frequent lecturer. Mr. Howard enjoys an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
